About BTES

BTES is a community-owned electric, fiber optic Internet, telephone and cable TV system that serves more than 31,000 customers in Bristol, Tennessee, and Sullivan County, a 280-square-mile service area. The system works closely with the city of Bristol, Tenn., to promote economic development and with customers to promote safety.

BTES began as the Bristol Tennessee Electric System, an electric provider to Bristol and Sullivan County Tennessee for more than 50 years

"For the past half-century, our customers depended on us to meet a fundamental need: to provide reliable, quality electric service," said Mike Browder, general manager of BTES. "While the need for dependable, quality electric service remains, it was time for a change that reflected the new scope of our business. This change recognized that these services are equally vital, or essential, in how we function today, whether in the business world or at home."

BTES has been gradually rolling out its high-speed Internet and cable TV services to various neighborhoods and businesses since November 2005.
