The Pedigree
Each year, the President of the United States presents the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to a small number of organizations. The award, established by Congress in 1987, is the nation's highest honor for management excellence.

A gifted quality engineer and management expert, David J. McClaskey, set up the initial Baldrige Award judging procedures, for which he received an "Outstanding Service to the Nation" award from the Commerce Department.
